A Journey of Faith and Scholarship: Geraldine Ford's Inspiring Story

The more I learned the clearer the voice of God became. I had the desire to continue school but did not have the funds. I was not going to register after completing my certificate, but I heard the voice of God saying, “Trust me.”

Geraldine Ford gives her student testimony at Stark’s 2023 Hand & Dove Scholarship Banquet.

Embarking on a path to deepen her understanding of theology, Geraldine felt a divine calling to pursue her education in ministry. After being encouraged to explore Stark College & Seminary, she connected with the faculty, who were immediately receptive to her aspirations. Professor Krissy Nichols and Dr. Fritz Williams offered her guidance and a listening ear, affirming her decision that Stark was her destined academic home.

Originally intending to complete Stark's Certificate in Ministry program, Geraldine's academic and spiritual journey took an unexpected turn. Despite financial uncertainties, she felt encouraged by a profound personal experience, interpreting it as a sign to continue her education against all odds. Her faith led her to enroll in a diploma class, where she was pleasantly surprised to learn she qualified for a program that would enable her to pursue Stark's Master of Arts in Ministry.

As Geraldine grappled with financial constraints, the timely notification of a scholarship award from Stark was a moment of joy and affirmation. She attributes this to the generosity of donors who make educational pursuits possible for students like her. This scholarship not only alleviated her financial burden but also reinforced her belief in her chosen path.

Since joining Stark College and Seminary in 2020, Geraldine's ambitions have evolved. What began as a goal to speak at women's conferences has grown into a calling to serve in chaplaincy. Her education at Stark has equipped her with the knowledge and skills to serve her community effectively. Notably, on September 12, 2021, Geraldine marked a milestone by becoming the first woman licensed to preach the gospel at Coliseum Park Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX.

Geraldine's narrative is a remarkable account of unwavering faith, academic endeavor, and the profound impact of philanthropy. Stark College & Seminary takes pride in supporting students like Geraldine, whose lives and ministries are changed through the opportunities provided by the institution and the generosity of its donors.

In her own words, Geraldine expresses her heartfelt gratitude: "Thank you. Because of Stark College & Seminary and the generosity of God’s people, my life, ministry, and impact will forever be transformed. I am ready to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and serve like never before."
